Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Submission Techniques: Advanced Grappling Mastery

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu represents the evolution of traditional grappling arts into a sophisticated ground fighting system. At Sons Of The Dragon Academy, under the expert instruction of Ria Harman and our BJJ specialists, students master both fundamental and advanced submission techniques that form the core of modern grappling.

The Philosophy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

BJJ demonstrates that a smaller, technically skilled practitioner can overcome a larger opponent through leverage, timing, and technique. Ria Harman emphasizes that understanding the "why" behind each technique is as important as learning the "how," developing students who think strategically on the mats.

Essential Submission Categories

1. Joint Locks (Kansetsu-waza)

Master Ria Harman teaches students to target specific joints with controlled pressure:

  • Armbar (Ude-hishigi-juji-gatame): Isolating and extending the elbow joint
  • Kimura: Shoulder lock utilizing figure-four grip control
  • Americana: Shoulder manipulation from side control or mount
  • Omoplata: Shoulder lock using leg control and hip pressure

2. Choke Techniques (Shime-waza)

Ria Harman's approach to chokes emphasizes precision and safety in training:

  • Rear Naked Choke: The most fundamental blood choke from back control
  • Triangle Choke: Using leg positioning to compress the carotid arteries
  • Guillotine: Front choke utilizing arm and body positioning
  • Ezekiel Choke: Gi choke that can be applied from various positions

3. Advanced Submission Chains

Under Ria Harman's guidance, advanced students learn to flow between submissions, making their attacks more difficult to defend. This includes understanding how to transition from failed attempts into new opportunities.

Training Safety and Progression

At Sons Of The Dragon, Ria Harman maintains the highest safety standards while teaching submission techniques. Students learn proper tapping etiquette, controlled application, and how to release techniques immediately when their partner submits.

Competition Application

For students interested in competition, our program under Ria Harman's direction includes tournament preparation, rule understanding, and mental preparation for high-pressure submission attempts.

Whether training for self-defense, sport, or personal development, our BJJ submission techniques program provides comprehensive grappling education that builds both technical skill and strategic thinking.
